A friend of mine wanted to transfer his data from a USB drive to my PC but the USB had no visible files. It was showing that it had few GBs of data in it but all it contained were few shortcuts. Antivirus program detected few viruses from that USB which were deleted. Furthermore I scanned and cleaned the USB drive by using some other antivirus tools (AdwCleaner, JRT, Spybot S&D, TDSSKiller and more). The USB was still not showing any data. It however displayed a hidden folder with no name. The folder had no name and it was showing zero size. Virus created a folder without name and transferred all the USB data in that folder. I had cleaned the USB. Now all I had to do is to retrieve that hidden data from USB drive. Here is how to do it. Here is how to recover hidden files from USB drives or external hard disks due to virus infection. You might want to check ‘show hidden files’ option from folder options before starting this procedure. Control Panel > Folder Options > View Check ‘Show Hidden Files and Folders’ there. The USB connected with my PC had a letter K. In below picture K is the USB drive. Following command via DOS will show hidden files from USB. Open DOS program by typing cmd in start or in run command prompt by pressing Windows+R. Type the following command in DOS and replace K with your USB drive letter. This will remove system, hidden, and read-only attributes from files or folders you run the command on. Command attrib -h -r -s /s /d k:\*.* Hit enter and the USB will reveal hidden files. If there is a folder without name, rename it and it will reveal all your USB files. Read more: http://www.techmynd.com/usb-drive-virus-hidden-files-solution/#ixzz3rTSFBEjj
